60th Anniversary of Disneyland Rides

Three of Disneyland’s favorite attractions share their 60th anniversary this year. The Matterhorn Bobsleds, Monorail and Submarine Voyage all opened in 1959. These three attractions have entertained millions of visitors during the past 60 years. The Matterhorn and Monorail have remained relatively unchanged through the years, the biggest change was with the Submarine Voyage. It did close in 1997 with lower attendance and talks of a remake with a Treasure Planet re-theme. When Treasure Planet did not do well at the box office, plans were scrapped and the rise remained closed. It reopened in 2007 as Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage based on the Disney Pixar movie Finding Nemo. The Matterhorn had a few ride enhancements and the Skyway attraction stopped going through the mountain when it closed in 1994. The biggest change was cosmetically when the holes used by the Skyway were closed up.
